The Food Bank of Central New York works in the community to eliminate hunger through food distribution, education and advocacy. In recent years the organization experienced substantial growth, creating the need for additional administrative, warehouse and refrigerated storage spaces. After purchasing an existing warehouse, a complete gut and renovation of the office area was necessary to accommodate the Food Bank’s space needs.
IPD performed the engineering design for the project. Work included 50,000 SF warehouse renovations including new ventilation, daylight access, high efficiency lighting and a repaired floor; a completely renovated 10,000 SF, two-story office; a new geothermal HVAC system; an elevator addition; and a completely new interior build-out designed specifically for the Food Bank that included offices, conference rooms, a commercial kitchen demonstration/training room, a fitness center and more. With strong sustainable goals, many green aspects were incorporated into the project including the geothermal HVAC systems.

IPD is working with the Food Bank once again on a 2023 office and warehouse addition of over 34,000 SF. The expansion will feature new volunteer areas, loading docks, cooler storage, additional office spaces, and enlarged employee break room.
