IPD Engineering provided the MEP/FP and geothermal system design for this new $27 million, 77,000 SF residential dormitory building. Performed as a design-build project in partnership with SUNY Polytechnic, DASNY, and the project team, the brand-new Hilltop Residence Hall added 250 beds to the campus.

The project is Net Zero Energy Ready and Net Zero Carbon Certified, including all conditions for certification by the International Living Future Institute. The building will exceed current energy codes and contain the infrastructure to add renewable energy systems in the future, including connections to a future solar power system. The building would then use the same amount or less energy as would be produced on-site annually.

Features of the new residence hall include hotel-style rooms with adjacent kitchens, lounges, study areas, and laundry rooms. It’s anticipated that SUNY will perform future dormitory projects in this manner, providing outstanding levels of energy savings and a healthy environment for students.
